Host team wins South Central Storm Tournament

Four area girls helped the South Central Storm 14U softball team to a 4-1 record and the championship of the Storm’s tournament at Lions Field in Kinmundy over the weekend.

The Storm wrapped up the championship with an 11-5 win over the Centralia Super Sonics in the title game on Sunday evening.
In the championship, Hailey Lane of Patoka was 2-for-4 with a homer and an RBI, and Delaney Kopp of Vandalia was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Bella Waggoner of Ramsey was 0-for-3 with a run scored, and Olivia Carroll, also of Ramsey, was 0-for-4.
On Sunday afternoon, the Storm led 6-4 after one inning on their way to a 9-5 defeat of the Nashville Swarm.
Waggoner was 1-2 with home run and an RBI, and Lane was 1-for-1 with a double and two runs scored.
Carroll was 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored, and Kopp was 1-for-1 with an RBI.
Kopp got the win, striking out five, walking five and giving up three hits, with only one of five Nashville runs earned.
On Sunday morning, the pitching duo of Lane and Carroll allowed just one run in a 9-1 win over SWAT SWAT-Hurlehe.
Waggoner was 2-for-2 with a double, 2 RBIs and a run scored, Carroll was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Lane was 0-for-2 with a walk and Kopp was 0-for-2.
Over four innings, Lane gave up three hits and struck out three, without any walks. In the final inning, Carroll gave up two hits and run and struck out three while also not giving up any walks.
On Saturday morning, Kopp and Rylie Clegg combined for a four-inning shutout of the Pumas in a 17-0 win.
Kopp got the victory, allowing just one hit and striking out three over two innings.
Clegg struck out one and held the Pumas hitless in the final inning.
Lane was 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored, Carroll was 0-2 with a walk and a run scored and Kopp was 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs and two runs scored.
Friday’s game against the Effingham Flame ended in a 4-4 tie.
Lane was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Carroll was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Kopp was 0-for-2 and a walk, and Waggoner was 0-for-1 with two walks.
Lane went the distance, striking out three and allowing six hits, with all four runs being unearned.

The area girls who are members of the South Central Storm 14U softball team are Bella Waggoner, Olivia Carroll, Delaney Kopp and Hailey Lane.
