Earlier this spring, Cole Tarkington of Vandalia finalized his 6:35 Food Pantry Project as a next step in completing his Eagle Scout rank. The entirety of the project at 6:35 Pantry, located at Third and Johnson streets in Vandalia, took 189 hours to complete. It consisted of building, modifying and installing 16 shelving units that helped create an efficient distribution routine, expanded food holding capacity and provided lower angled shelves that enable food accessibility for those with physical challenges. His project was supplied fully from donations of materials, tools, work sites and labor from local citizens. The project has opened doors to new connections with good people in his local community, and created a positive impact in his hometown by helping those who need it the most. He is the son of Shannon and Jill Tarkington of Vandalia.
