Effingham woman killed in I-70 wreck

An Effingham woman died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident last Wednesday morning.
The Illinois State Police said that Karen E. Condron, 80, was traveling west on Interstate 70, near milepost 70, in a 2014 Toyota Rav 4, when, for an unknown reason, she crossed the center median and continued traveling west in the eastbound lanes.
The ISP said that Condron’s vehicle collided head-on with a 2010 Ford Edge driven by Travis J. Stroup, 24, of New Castle, Ind.
Fayette County Coroner David Harris pronounced Condron dead at the scene.
Travis Stroup injuries and a passenger in his vehicle, Courtney D. Stroup, 25, of New Castle, were transported to an area hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Vandalia and Brownstown fire departments were called to the scene for extrication assistance.
