Lions seek donations for fireworks

The Vandalia Lions Club will continue to host the city’s Fourth of July fireworks over Vandalia Lake.
With the fireworks display set for Friday, June 3, over Vandalia Lake, the Lions are hoping that local organizations, businesses and individuals come forward to help pay for the display.
“Independence Day is right around the corner and the Vandalia Lions Club is gearing up for our annual fireworks presentation. Year to date, our community has weathered situations that many of us could have never imagined possible. Right now, everyone could use a little bit of positivity and normalcy,” Lions President Les Smith said in a letter mailed to local businesses earlier this week.
The Lions traditionally have solicited donations from the community for the fireworks display, but COVID-19 has hampered those efforts this year.
Therefore, the club is still seeking contributions for this year’s display.
“We heavily rely on donations from our community to help us with the $11,000 annual cost of the fireworks display,” Smith said in the letter.
Donations can be given to Lions Club members or mailed to: Vandalia Lions Club, c/o Les Smith, 2012 Karen St., Vandalia, Ill. 62471.
