Two city of Vandalia bodies will meet by teleconference next week to discuss an ordinance on cannabis businesses in the city.
The city council voted last week to have the city’s planning commission and zoning board of adjustments meet jointly to consider definitions, use regulations, zoning district(s) in which cannabis sales would be allowed and any setbacks from certain types of businesses, such as home day cares and home health facilities.
That joint hearing is set for 6 p.m. next Thursday.
The two bodies are being charged with sending on to the city council any recommendations on an ordinance governing cannabis businesses.
The council has the option of allowing cannabis sales as a permitted use or a special use, according to City Administrator LaTisha Paslay.
With the latter, applications would be considered on a case-by-case basis and would be reviewed by the city’s zoning board.
Residents interested in the issue may listen to the teleconference by calling 424-5306, then entering the PIN number 415479, followed by #.
After introducing themselves, callers are to mute their phones. Those who do not mute their phones may be disconnected and have to call in again.
Time will be given to those who wish to speak on the issue.
