VCHS holds virtual awards ceremony

Vandalia Community High School held a virtual awards ceremony on Friday. The following awards/scholarships were presented:

• Ty Bates/Shelter Insurance Scholarship, presented by Ty Bates – Bailey Elder.
• Beulah Brown Scholarships, presented by Assistant Principal Greta Krueger – Sophie Whitten and McKinlee Carruthers.
• Daughters of American Revolution Award, presented by VCHS counselor Kim Major – Bradyn Kaiser.
• Sons of the American Revolution Award, presented by Major – Megan Kern.
• Illinois State Scholars – Sophie Whitten, Lanee McNary, Bradyn Kaiser and Megan Kern.
• Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees Scholarships, presented by Vandalia KC Center Director Wendy Blythe – Amelia Smith and Abigail Miles.
• Vandals Sports Boosters Scholarships, presented by Protz – Matthew Wells, Thomas Ritchey, Samantha Miller, Lanee McNary, Megan Kern and Madison Ledbetter.
• Vernon Drenckpohl Award, three-sport athletes for all four years, presented by Protz. – Matthew Wells, Garrett Austin and Samantha Miller.
• Bob Bowen Scholarship, presented by Cheri Lux, Bowen’s daughter and VCHS teacher – Megan Kern.
• John and Sherry Baumann Burnside Scholarships, presented by Sherry Baumann Burnside and Shelly Burnside – Bradyn Kaiser, Sophie Whitten and Cameron Withers.
• Student Council Red Cross Scholarship, presented by VCHS teacher and student council co-sponsor Joey Daniken – Bradyn Kaiser.
• Walt Leidner Award, most valuable senior athletes – Matthew Wells and Lanee McNary.
• Junior Wrestling Club Scholarships, presented by Michael Mabry of the Vandalia Jr. Wrestling Club – Matthew Hobler and Bradyn Kaiser.
• Vina A. Memorial Scholarship (GFWC Vandalia Woman’s Club), presented by Assistant Principal Greta Krueger – McKinlee Carruthers.
• Remote Learning All-Stars, presented by VCHS teacher Amanda Kamplain – Daxton Metzger, Ellika Whitman, Allison Griggs and Melissa Sides.
• Remote Learning All-Star/Overall Academic Achievement for Algebra II – Madyson Hill.
• English Award, presented by VCHS English teacher Travis Redman – Megan Kern and Sophie Whitten.
