Vandals fall to Trenton, win big at Hillsboro

Vandalia led Tuesday’s contest with Trenton Wesclin in the first half, but Wesclin outscored the Vandals in the last two quarters for a 54-36 win.

The Vandals led 11-6 after the first quarter and were up 25-21 at halftime.
Trenton then took the lead with a 10-6 advantage in the third quarter and closed out the win by outscoring Vandalia 18-15 in the final quarter.
Matthew Wells and Gaige Beall each had 11 points to lead Vandalia.

Vandalia jumped out to a 20-14 first-quarter lead and maintained that lead the whole game in smacking Hillsboro, 74-49, on the road on Friday.
Matthew Wells scored 22 points and Garrett Austin added 19 in the win.

St. Elmo/Brownstown fell behind early and was not able to recover in a 71-52 loss to Dieterich on the road on Tuesday.
The Eagles fell behind 13-9 after one quarter, and Dieterich outscored St. Elmo/Brownstown 21-5 in the second quarter to lead 34-14 at halftime.
Both teams scored 13 in the third quarter, and SEB held a 23-22 edge in the final quarter.
One of the issues for the Eagles was 17-percent (3 for 17) shooting from three-point range.
However, Dieterich was not much better, at 25 percent, 3 for 12.

St. Elmo/Brownstown jumped out to a 16-2 lead after one quarter in pounding Windsor/Stew-Stras, 48-29, on Saturday to win the seventh-place game at the National Trail Conference Tournament at Altamont.

The Cougars defeated North Clay, 73-57, on Saturday to win the consolation championship at the National Trail Conference Tournament.
