School board holds short meeting

Due to the accident that claimed the lives of two high school students and the parents of the high school principal, the Vandalia Board of Education handled a brief agenda on Tuesday.
During that meeting, Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Garrison presented the district’s proposed tax levy.
“It’s basically a flat levy,” Garrison said about the levy, which has a .01-percent decrease compared to the taxes extended the previous year.
The tentative tax levy has a total of $4,416,396, compared to the previous tax extension total of $4,418,888.
After meeting in closed session, the board took the following personnel action:
• Employed Jade Warrant as a teacher’s aide at Vandalia Elementary School.
• Approved the resignation of Katie Myers as the high school volleyball coach, then approved the hiring of Haley (Wollerman) McGinnis.
The board opened the meeting with a moment of silence for VCHS students Jenna Protz and Holly Lidy, and Mr. and Mrs. William Protz, the parents of VCHS Principal Randy Protz.
It was followed by a short prayer by board President Joe Lawson.
