Applications taken for school board seat

Applications are being accepted through next Tuesday afternoon for an open seat on the Vandalia Board of Education.
The vacancy has been created by the resignation of Chris Palmer, who was serving as the president of the school board at the time of his resignation, which was effective on Monday.
Residents of the district who are interested in serving on the school board are asked to submit a resumé and letter of interest with the acting board president, Matt Hall by 3 p.m. on Tuesday. They can be turned in at or mailed to the district’s administration center, 1109 N. Eighth St., Vandalia, Ill. 62471.
Board members will review applications and, if necessary, select candidates to be interviewed for the vacancy.
The person picked for the school board seat will not step into the role of board president, as board members elect the president.
The person selected for the vacancy will serve on the school board until the consolidated election in April next year. At that election, voters will elect a board member to serve a two-year term.
A legal notice on the vacant seat is on Page 14 of today's issue.
