Child porn arrest

A Vandalia man is jailed on $700,000 bond after being arrested on child pornography charges earlier this week.

Probable cause was found in Fayette County Circuit Court last Friday to arrest Dennis J. Pickens on four counts of production of child pornography.
Pickens, 59, was taken into custody later on Friday by Vandalia Police and made his first appearance in court on Monday.
During that court hearing, Judge Marc Kelly granted a request by Pickens to be represented by a public defender, appointing William Starnes to the case.
A preliminary hearing for Pickens has been set for 10 a.m. on Oct. 11.
Two of the four counts allege that between March 22 and Sept. 21, Pickens produced a video of a child under the age of 18 “fully nude with a towel on her head putting on deodorant,” and another count alleges producing a video of the child “fully nude getting a wash rag from (the) shower and re-entering (the) shower.
A fourth count alleges that Pickens produced a video of two children under the age of 18 fully nude.
Each of the counts is a Class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison, and by law, sentences for a conviction of this offense must be served consecutively.
