Band hit all of the right notes

The two women who organized the Vandalia Community Summer Band were faced with a number of questions after the band's performance. But most were of the same nature.
Those attending the performance were asking Elizabeth Mesnard, a music education student at McKendree who came up with the idea for the band, and Amanda Moloney, Vandalia director of bands, when the band would be performing next.
Those posing the question indicated the desire to, for example, perform every Friday or at least several more times this summer. We would add our request for that.
Performing with only four days of practice, the band  sounded as if its members had been together for some time. It was a tremendous performance.
One thing that was obvious was the age range and experience of the performers, from students like sixth-grader Issac Sachan to retired band directors like James Hejl.
The only downside to the evening was the relocation of the performance from the Vandalia Statehouse lawn to the Vandalia Elementary School, due to the possibility of bad weather.
An outdoor performance would have been even better, because many more people would have been able to hear them.
We applaud Mesnard, Moloney and all of the band members for their performance, and hope to see more of this kind of thing in the future.
