Evans places sixth in pole vault at state track meet

Vandalia Junior High School eighth-grader Dawsyn Evans placed sixth in the pole vault at the IESA State Track Meet on Saturday.

Evans cleared 8 feet, 3 inches to tie for sixth place with Jalynn Wood of Mt. Zion and Sarah Carlson of Eureka in the Class AA event for eighth-graders.
Other local athletes in the state track meet finals were:
• Ethan Watwood of Kinmundy South Central, 7A 1,600-meter run, 5:26.41, 20th place.
• Dalton Lake of Brownstown, 7A preliminaries, 110-meter hurdles, 18.50 minutes, 14th place.
• Leo Krueger of Vandalia, 8AA finals, pole vault, 9 feet, 3 inches, no place listed.
• Vandalia’s 4×100 relay team of Pierson Wilkerson, Lendon Isaiah, Preston Nestrick and Matthew Hagy, 52.63 seconds, 31st place.
• Josie Womack of Vandalia, 7AA finals, pole vault, no place or height listed.
• Jenna Protz of Vandalia, 7AA finals, discus, 75 feet, 2½ inches, 24th place.
• Riely Ward of Vandalia, 8AA finals, shot put, 31 feet, 3¼ inches, 10th place.
