? Soroptimist International of Vandalia is holding "Breakfast with Santa" from 8-10 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church. Pancakes and sausage are being served, and the cost is $6 per person; children only may save $1 by coloring the event flyer, available at the Family YMCA of Fayette County, on the Soroptimist Facebook page and at County Market, and taking it to the event. The breakfast includes photos with Santa, activities and treat bags.
? Evans Public Library will hold a Dinosaur Story Saturday at 10 a.m. Children of all ages are invited to listed to stories and make a craf.

The Vandalia Historical Society is holding its annual Christmas Gala at the Vandalia Statehouse, 6-8:30 p.m. Tickets, 50 each, include hors d'oeuvres, beverages, this year's Statehouse ornament, live music by "Legends" and a one-year membership in the society. ? The village of Brownstown will hold a Christmas event at the village hall and Brownstown Branch Library. The lighting of the village Christmas tree and singing of Christmas carols is at 6 p.m. across the street from the village hall, and Santa will be at the library afterward.
? The Mad Dogs Motorcycle Club will hold its 34th annual Toys for Tots Christmas Party at their clubhouse in Vera. Gates open at 6 p.m., and "Mind Bender" performs at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 or a new toy. Toy party T-shirts are available. A benefit auction benefits Fayette County Caring & Sharing and toys collected will go to Toys for Tots at Arthur Young Inc. The public is invited.

"Christmas in St. Elmo" is in downtown St. Elmo from 2-6 p.m. The schedule is: vendor booths and open house at businesses, 2-5 p.m.; free carriage rides at the police station, 3-5 p.m.; lighting of city Christmas tree, 5:15 p.m.; and Ministerial Alliance community Christmas service at First Assembly of God, 6 p.m.

? Fayette County Mothers of Preschoolers meets at 6:30 p.m. in the back room of the St. Elmo Public Library. Mothers of children ages newborn to kindergarten-age are invited. Snacks and child care is provided.

Tuesday, December 5

? A Christian women's fellowship breakfast is held at 9:30 a.m. at Denny's. The breakfast is open to all women interested in Christian fellowship. For more information, contact Faye Watson, 267-8487.
? The Fayette County Hospital Auxiliary will hold its annual Christmas brunch at 10:30 a.m. at the hospital. Members are encouraged to attend. There will be no meeting, only visiting.

? The Regional Office of Education No. 3 Learning Express Program will hold a book walk at 2 p.m. at the St. Elmo Public Library. The free event open to the community will include a story time, simple craft, and a book and treat to take home.
? Bingo is held at the Vandalia Moose Lodge in Vandalia. It starts at 7 p.m., with Lightning at 5:30 p.m.
? The Vandalia Chamber of Commerce meets at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse.

Thursday, December 7

? An open house is being held from 1-4:30 p.m. at the Fayette County Soil and Water Conservation office, in the USDA building at Third and Johnson streets, in honor of Resource Conservationist Tony Pals and to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the district. Desserts will be served.

Friday, December 8

? Temperance Lodge No. 16 A.F. & A.M. will conduct its 175th rededication ceremony at the lodge, 612 W. Johnson St., Vandalia. The ceremony begins at noon and will be followed by a luncheon. It is open to all members and the public.
? The Vandalia Statehouse Christmas Open House is from 6-8:30 p.m. The Statehouse will be bathed in candlelight and dressed with period decorations. The first 100 families registering will receive this year's Statehouse Christmas ornament. Those attending are asked to take a non-perishable or canned food item for the local food pantry.
? Bethel Baptist Church, located seven miles northwest of Vandalia on Ill. Route 185, will hold its annual Christmas Concert at 6 p.m. Norris Price is the emcee, and performers include Beth Hoffman and Megan Goodman, Cassidy Jones, Dewayne Brown, Taylor Leidner, Tammy Hall, Amber Pease, Bailey Jones, James and Dacia Wehrle, Gary Wellbaum, Dave Jones and a special guest. The concert is open to the public.
