Police handle large number of thefts from vehicles

In light of numerous thefts one evening last week, Vandalia’s police chief is reminding residents to lock their vehicles.
The city police reported last week that they handled thefts from 13 vehicles, with most of them being at Capitol Pointe Apartments at the west end of Randolph Street.
All of those vehicles, Police Chief Jeff Ray said, were not locked at the time of the thefts.
In addition to the thefts late last Wednesday evening, police have received sporadic reports of thefts from vehicles, Ray said.
One report was for a firearm stolen from an unlocked vehicle, he said.
