? Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 will hold bingo at 7 p.m. at the Legion Home; doors open at 5:30 p.m.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.

Saturday, August 5

? The Lincoln Trail Color Run 5K will be held at 9 a.m. at Rogier Park in Vandalia. The 5K will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Runners and walkers will be doused with neon colors at three stations. All participants will receive a T-shirt, all finishers will receive a medal and prizes will be awarded to the first three male and female runners. ? Evans Public Library will hold a Story Saturday at 10 a.m. Children of all ages are invited to listen to stories and make a craft.
? Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 in Vandalia will hold a chicken and beer dance at the Legion Home. The meal is from 5-7 p.m. and the band "Thunder Road" performs from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $15 for the meal and band, and $5 for just the band.
? The 10th "Movies Under the Stars" at dusk on the Vandalia Statehouse lawn is "Harry Potter," sponsored by State Farm agent Clint Simpson and held every Saturday night through the end of August at the Statehouse. The evenings will include free give-aways and activities. Refreshments will be available for purchase, with all proceeds going toward the Statehouse window restoration project.

Sunday, August 6

? The Shoal Creek Chapter of ABATE will hold its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. at Bernadini's in Nokomis.

Monday, August 7

? The Women of the Moose meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
? Fayette County MOPS, Mothers of Preschoolers, 6:30-8 p.m., St. Elmo Public Library. Snacks and child care are provided.
? The Vandalia City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.

Tuesday, August 8

? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? First United Methodist Church in Vandalia will hold its "Backpack 2 School" from 4-6 p.m. at the church's Family Life Center, Main and Fourth streets. School children accompanied by a parent or guardian will receive a backpack containing coupons and free giveaways. The event includes games, activities, face painting, free hair cuts and refreshments.
? The Fayette County Board meets at 7 p.m. in the large courtroom at city hall.
? The budget and appropriations hearing for Evans Public Library District will be held at 7:15 p.m. at the library. The montly meeting of the library district board will be follow at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, August 9

? Tools for Schools, which provides free school supplies for in-need students in Fayette County, is open from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1221 W. Fillmore St., Vandalia, north entrance. All students must accompany their parents. For more information, contact the church office, 283-0937.
? Summer Lunches for Kids is offered from 11-11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays at United Methodist Church in Brownstown.
? Bingo at the Vandalia Moose Lodge in Vandalia is on a summer break. Bingo will resume on Sept. 13.
? "Exploring the Arts," a free arts program for children in grades 3-8, is being held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesdays through Aug. 16 (except July 5) at St. Elmo Christian Church, 112 W. Sixth St.

The evenings will include free give-aways and activities. Refreshments will be available for purchase, with all proceeds going toward the Statehouse window restoration project. In conjunction with the movie, a classic car and hot rod show is being held; cars can park in the Old Capitol Shopping Center, former Kroger store lot. Attendees are invited to dress in 1950s and 1960s attire. 1950s and 1960s music will be played prior to the movie.
