? The story for the story time at the Vandalia Statehouse at 10 a.m. is "Lily's Victory Garden." After the story, local master naturalist Brad Brannon will give a demonstration, and children will plant their own seeds.
? The Fayette County Health Department hospice grief support group meets from 6-7 p.m. at the health department, 416 W. Edwards St., Vandalia. For more information, contact hospice coordinator Jami Lockart at 283-7262.
? The Crawford-Hale American Legion Unit 95 Auxiliary meets at the Legion Home. The executive board meets at 5:30 p.m. and the regular meeting is at 6 p.m.
? CenterPointe Church, located at 1616 Veterans Ave. in Vandalia, is holding free Weekly Fit Club sessions at 6 p.m. every Thursday.
? The Fayette County Fair in Brownstown continues. In the grandstand is stock car racing by Fayette County Speedway at 7 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for ages 6-11; 5 and under are free. Pit passes are $30.

? Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 will hold bingo at 7 p.m. at the Legion Home; doors open at 5:30 p.m.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.
? The Fayette County Fair in Brownstown continues. In the grandstand are "Feudin' Hillbillys," a country group from the Champaign area. Admission is a $5 charge at the gate. The inaugural Fayette County Fair Water Fights, featuring area fire departments, will be held at 5:30 p.m.

Saturday, July 22

? The St. Elmo/Brownstown high school cheerleaders will be holding a free car wash from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Andy's Auto Body on U.S. Route 40 in Brownstown. Donations will be accepted.
? A benefit for Colin Harrison, who is undergoing treatments for stage 3 lung cancer, will be held at 5 p.m. at Fillmore Lake. A dinner is at 5 p.m. and a live auction is at 6 p.m. The benefit also includes a silent auction, games for kids, a 50/50 drawing and music by a DJ. Admission at the gate is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12, with children 5 and under free. The eighth "Movies Under the Stars" at dusk on the Vandalia Statehouse lawn is "E.T.," sponsored by State Farm agent Clint Simpson and held every Saturday night through the end of August at the Statehouse. The evenings will include free give-aways and activities. Refreshments will be available for purchase, with all proceeds going toward the Statehouse window restoration project.
? The Fayette County Fair in Brownstown continues. In the grandstand is C-Bar Rodeo. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-11; 5 and under are free. Pit passes are $15.

Monday, July 24

? The Vandalia Lions Club is meeting with the St. Elmo Lions Club at Mary Ann's Restaurant in St. Elmo. The clubs gather at 5:30 p.m., the meal is at 6 p.m. and the meeting is at 6:30 p.m. The two clubs will host the new District 1-M governor, Lori Bennett of Paris, Ill. There is no board meeting.

? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.

? St. Joseph's Food Pantry and Clothes Closet, located at 114 E. Main St. in Ramsey, is open from 9:30-11 a.m.
? Summer Lunches for Kids is offered from 11-11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays at United Methodist Church in Brownstown.
? Bingo at the Vandalia Moose Lodge in Vandalia is on a summer break. Bingo will resume on Sept. 13.
? "Exploring the Arts," a free arts program for children in grades 3-8, is being held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesdays through Aug. 16 (except July 5) at St. Elmo Christian Church, 112 W. Sixth St.
