FCHD offers hospice volunteer training

The Fayette County Health Department is offering hospice volunteer training on Wednesday, July 12, at the health department office, 416 W. Edwards St., Vandalia.
The training will run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., with lunch being served.
Hospice volunteers help in a variety of ways, including: sitting with patients to give family members rest or a break for errands; running errands for patients or family members; providing meals; doing light housework; maintaining the memorial gazebo; helping with mailings to families; helping with the FCHD grief support group; and clerical tasks.
There is also a need for massage therapists who would like to offer massage therapy to patients who have pain from cancer or immobility, and for individuals who would be willing to sew personalized memorial items for families that have lost loved ones.
Those planning to attend the volunteer training are asked to RSVP with Jami Lockart, hospice coordinator, or the hospice volunteer coordinator at 283-7262.
