Pool opens this Friday

The Vandalia Public Swimming Pool will open for the season this Friday, weather permitting. The pool hours are Sunday-Friday, 1-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., and Saturdays 1-5 p.m., only due to private parties. Wednesday mornings, 9-11. There must be at least 10 people present to open the pool on questionable weather days and nights.
Admission for 2 years and under is free; for everyone else, it is $4. If you pay to swim from 1-5 p.m., you may return from 6-8 for half price; you must get your hand stamped before you leave. Anyone entering the deck area must pay admission.
Season pass prices will remain the same. Those are as follows: single passes are $150 for those living in the park district and $200 for those outside the park district; and family passes are $300 for those living in the park district with one to six people; with more than six, it will be $50 more per person. For those living outside the park district, a family of 1-6 is $350, with a $50 more per person over that.
Those children who are not potty trained must wear a swim diaper (Little Swimmers). Regular diapers with rubber pants are not allowed due to health concerns. Regular diapers cannot handle the amount of water absorbed and they explode on the deck or in the pool. Baby changing stations are located in the men’s and women’s dressing room. Please use this area to change your little ones.
The staff would like to remind everyone that the swimming pool is a family friendly place. Proper swim attire must be worn at all times. Fighting, bullying and foul language will not be tolerated by anyone of any age.
Lifeguard training will begin on Saturday, June 3, at 10:30 a.m., with a swimming pre-test. All candidates must pass this test to be allowed in the class.
Classes will meet June 5-16, 9 a.m. until noon, Monday-Friday. The cost of this program is $225. You must pay before the last day of class. Registration is from now until June 2.
The class includes book rental, pocket mask, fanny pack, whistle, First Aid and C.P.R./AED training. You can register by calling Lisa Robbins at 283-4800 or the pool at 283-4211.
Free swim will begin Wednesday, May 31, and end August 2. The pool will be open from the hours of 9-11 a.m.
