FCH LTC earns five-star rating

The Long Term Care facility at Fayette County Hospital received notification from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that the nursing home has earned five out of five stars. CMS created the Five-Star Quality Rating System to help consumers, their families and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily.
Each nursing home listed on the website receives a rating of between one and five stars. Nursing homes with five stars are considered to have much above average quality, and nursing homes with one star are considered to have quality much below average.
The ratings are determined by the nursing homes’ performance in three areas: health inspections from the past three years; staffing information about the number of hours of care provided on average to each resident each day by nursing staff; and quality measures  on 11 different physical and clinical measures for nursing home residents.
Marci Barth, CNO of Fayette County Hospital & Long Term Care, said, “Our director, Registered Nurse Dawn Welch, and all of the staff that work in or support Long Term Care are to be commended for their wonderful commitment to providing excellent care to our residents.
“We are blessed to have such a caring and competent staff.”  Certified nurses aide Molli Tedrick said, “I have been to a lot of places for clinicals, and LTC blows them all out of the water.”
Brad Elmore, a long-time resident of the nursing home, said, “How about that. This is a great place. Everybody is so good, and they’re like family. They treat us like family.”
Frank Roeder, husband of resident Priscilla, is not surprised by the five-star rating. “Everyone, and I mean every single employee in here, is fantastic. We could not ask for any better care.”
Fayette County Hospital & Long Term Care is located at 650 W. Taylor St. in Vandalia. The LTC facility, which is physically attached to the hospital, was constructed in 1972, and it is licensed for 85 beds.
The hospital and Long Term Care are owned by the Fayette County Hospital District and operated by Heartland Health System, Inc.
