? CenterPointe Church, located at 1616 Veterans Ave. in Vandalia, is holding free Weekly Fit Club sessions at 6 p.m. every Thursday.
? TOPS IL 1872, Ramsey, will meet at the Christian Church in Ramsey. Weigh-in is at 6:20 p.m. and the meeting is at 7 p.m.
? R.I.P. (Restoration in Progress) will be cleaning headstones in the Old State Burial Ground on West Edwards Street from 9-11:15 a.m., weather permitting. Local residents who are interested in participating in the project are invited to the cemetery this Thursday. Those who wish to help are encouraged to take rubber or garden gloves. ? Evans Public Library's Teen Advisory Board meets at 4 p.m. Teens interested in joining the board should contact Shawna Sprague at the library, 283-2824.
? Vandalia Elementary School is holding its annual Fun Fair from 5-8 p.m.
? Bingo will be held at the Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 Home. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo begins at 7 p.m.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.
? "Laugh for Life" comedy night, a benefit for Lighthouse Pregnancy Center, will be held at 7 p.m. at CenterPointe Church, 1616 Veterans Ave. in Vandalia. Paul Aldrich is the performer. A love offering will be taken. For more information, call 283-8750 or go online to www.lighthousepregnancy.org.

Saturday, November 5

? Fayette County HCE is sponsoring an Alzheimer’s disease awareness program from 1-3 p.m. at the Northside Christian Church in Vandalia. The speakers are: Lyn Gartke, LCPN program director of the Center for Senior Renewal, Vandalia; and Jessica  Blankenship, CNA. There will be free refreshments, literature and memory screening.
? "Battle of the Barktenders," a fundraiser for Second Chance Animal Rescue of Fayette County, is being held from 4-9 p.m. at Sixth Street Pub, 120 S. Sixth St., Vandalia. The fundraiser includes a silent auction for gift baskets and other prizes and a raffle.
? The 36th annual Perry Biggs Memorial Fiddle Contest and Bluegrass Show will be held at the Patoka Civic Center. Brenda Cook of Sullivan, Mo., opens the show at 5 p.m., and will be followed by The Worthing Family Bluegrass Band. The fiddlers begin playing at 6:25 p.m., with many of the Midwest's finest fiddle players competing for prize money and trophies. National open champion George Portz and his "Friends of Bluegrass" will also be performing, with a cajun set planned. Full dinners, sandwiches and desserts will be served all evening. Mouse Races, an event to raise funds for Vandalia Community High School boys basketball transportation, is being held in the junior high gym, beginning at 6 p.m. The event includes mouse races, a 50/50 wheel, heads or tails game and silent auction. Admission is $15 per person, with children accompanied by adults free; admission includes dinner, with soda and water available for purchase.
? Fayette County 4-H Achievement Night, 7 p.m., Brownstown Elementary cafeteria.
? CenterPointe Church, located in the former Rural King building on Veterans Avenue in Vandalia, is holding a trivia night. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the event starts at 7 p.m. The entry fee is $10 per person. A silent auction is also being held.

Sunday, November 6

? Fayette County Extension Foundation soup luncheon, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Brownstown Elementary cafeteria. The menu is chili, vegetable beef soup, hot dogs, relishes and homemade desserts. The charge is a free-will donation. Fayette County 4-H Clubs also will have a bake sale. Raffle ticket sales for food at County Market in Vandalia also will be available. They are $10 each and there will be three winners – $300, $200 and $100 – for food at County Market.
? The Shoal Creek Chapter of ABATE will meet at 1 p.m. at the VFW Home on West St. Louis Avenue in Vandalia. A ride and roll party will follow the meeting.
? “Annie Oakley” is the Historical Vandalia Inc. second Season of Events performance – 2 p.m., Vandalia First UMC Wesley Hall. Tickets at the Fayette County Museum are $13, and at the door, they are $15.

Monday, November 7

? Fayette County Mothers of Preschoolers meets at 6:30 p.m. in the back room of the St. Elmo Public Library. Mothers of children ages newborn to kindergarten-age are invited. Snacks and child care is provided.
? The Women of the Moose meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
? The Vandalia City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.

Tuesday, November 8

Polls are open from 6 a.m.-7 p.m.
? The Evans Public Library District Board of Trustees meets at 7:30 p.m. at the library.

Wednesday, November 9

? St. Peter's Lutheran School in St. Peter is holding a Veterans Day observance. Junior high students are serving breakfast to veterans, their friends and their spouses at 7:45 a.m., to be followed by the weekly chapel service at 8:30 a.m. and a program led by the junior high students, with World War II veteran Richard Lowe being the featured speaker.

? The Vandalia Moose Lodge is holding its monthly fish and chicken dinner from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The cost is $8 per person. The dinner is open to the public.
? "Olde Tyme Christmas" is being held in downtown Vandalia on Nov. 11-12.
? Evans Public Library in Vandalia will hold a holiday story time at 6 p.m., as part of "Olde Tyme Christmas" in downstown Vandalia. Children of all ages are invited.
? Northside Christian Church, located at 1845 W. Jackson St. in Vandalia, will hold a Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. Local historian Linda Hanabarger will be the guest speaker. Local residents currently serving on active duty of all branches of the armed forces; to submit names of those currently serving, mail or email ([email protected]) them to the church.
? St. Elmo veterans will host the annual Veterans Day flag ceremony at the Veterans Memorial on U.S. Route 40 in St. Elmo, with services beginning at 11 a.m. Flags will be retired and presented to donors upon inspection.  Services will be moved inside the Phillips Building in the event of bad weather. Anyone wishing to donate a flag can contact Bob Heckert or Ernie Myers.

Saturday, November 12

? A paint and chemical recycling event is being held from in the city parking lot at the southeast corner of Fifth and Johnson streets in Vandalia from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. or until the recycler is full. The costs for disposal are: $1 per gallon; 25 cents for spray paint cans; and $1 for spray pesticide cans.
? A craft and vendor fair, and wine-tasting, will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the American Legion Home, 321 S. Seventh St., Vandalia. It will include at least 20 vendors, and participating wineries are Lasata Wines in Lawrenceville and Vahling Vineyards in Stewardson. The event includes raffle prizes, a 50/50 drawing and food. Admission is $5 per person, with children under age 12 admitted free. Proceeds go to the Crawford-Hale American Legion Unit 95 Auxiliary.
? “Olde Tyme Christmas" in downtown Vandalia continues.
? The youth at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, located at 726 W. Fillmore St. in Vandalia, are holding a hot cakes and sausage breakfast from 7 a.m.-noon. The cost is $5 per person, and carry-outs will be available.
