Brownstown shopping event returns

What began a few years ago as a thoughtful wish to help some citizens of Brownstown do some holiday shopping without having to get out in cold weather and drive to other towns has become sort of a holiday tradition, like Old Tyme Christmas in Vandalia, but on a smaller scale, and especially with seniors’ safety and convenience in Brownstown in mind.

Tammy Barker saw the need for the older or otherwise travel-restricted residents to have holiday shopping available without the stress and worry of driving to other towns in inclement, cold weather and often-hazardous driving conditions.
She shared this concern with friends and they agreed to bring their wares together under one roof in Brownstown.
However, it was soon obvious that the hometown “shopping center” was a help to all ages, from Brownstown and surrounding communities, so it has continued on and is growing every year.
Brownstown Holiday Open House
Along with the original ladies of the first open house who brought their wares to offer, many more vendors have been joined in.
Tammy Barker said, “I have tried to keep my vendors from the local area, so this benefits both sides, those selling from this area and those wanting to do holiday shopping without having the drive.
This year’s Holiday Open House will be held this Saturday, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Brownstown Elementary School cafeteria, with gifts and goodies of every description to please everyone on your list.
