? The Fayette County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 10:30 a.m. at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia. All retired teachers are invited to attend this informational meeting. For more information, contact Diane Curll at 283-0492.
? Evans Public Library's Homeschool Group meets from 1-2 p.m. Anyone interested in joining the group should contact Shawna Sprague at the library, 283-2824.
? CenterPointe Church, located at 1616 Veterans Ave. in Vandalia, is holding free Weekly Fit Club sessions at 6 p.m. every Thursday.
? TOPS IL 1872, Ramsey, will meet at the Christian Church in Ramsey. Weigh-in is at 6:20 p.m. and the meeting is at 7 p.m.
? St. James Lutheran Church, 727 W. Gallatin St., is holding its annual chili supper and vintage quilt auction from 4-7 p.m. The menu includes chili, hot dogs or peanut butter sandwich, dessert and drink. The cost is $6 per person.
? The Vandalia Lions Club is holding its annual Halloween Parade at 7 p.m.
? Monster Manor, a haunted house at the former Washington School, provided by the Vandalia Swimming Pool staff, is open after the parade until 10:30 p.m. Admission is $6 per person.

Friday, October 28

? Bingo will be held at the Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 Home. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo begins at 7 p.m.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.
? Monster Manor, a haunted house at the former Washington School, provided by the Vandalia Swimming Pool staff, is open from 7-11 p.m. Admission is $6 per person.
? "Laugh for Life" comedy night, a benefit for Lighthouse Pregnancy Center, will be held at 7 p.m. at CenterPointe Church, 1616 Veterans Ave. in Vandalia. Paul Aldrich is the performer. A love offering will be taken. For more information, call 283-8750 or go online to www.lighthousepregnancy.org.

Saturday, October 29

? The Vandalia Moose Lodge is holding a pancake and sausage breakfast from 6 a.m.-1 p.m. A raffle for a television and grill are being held.
? "Life is Beautiful," a walk/run top benefit Lighthouse Pregnancy & Health Services of Vandalia, will be held in Rogier Park on West Fillmore Street in Vandalia, rain or shine. Registration begins at 8 a.m., a pre-event rally is at 8:30 a.m. A 5K run begins at 9 a.m., and a two-mile walk starts at 9:05 a.m. Registration fees are $30 for adults and $20 for children ages 16 and under. Participants are asked to gain sponsors for the event, and they can participate either individually or as teams. Amazon gift cards will go to the  top three finishers, and all participants will receive a medal.
? FAYCO Enterprises is holding a book fair from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. All books are $1 or less.
? "Downtown Trick or Treat" will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in downtown Vandalia. It includes a story time at Evans Public Library at 10 a.m., trick-or-treating downtown from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (the library will hand out a list of participating merchants) and a costume contest for children up to 13 years old at Family Video at 12:30 p.m.
? Northside Christian Church, located at 1845 W. Jackson St. in Vandalia, is holding a Family Fall Festival from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. It will include sack races, an obstacle course, bounce houses, pick-a-duck, bag toss, facepainting and live music by "Asaph Project." Snow cones, popcorn and cotton candy will be available.
? Trick or Treat Night in Vandalia, from 6-8 p.m.
? Brookstone Estates, located at 1607 W. Fillmore St., Vandalia, will hold safe trick or treat from 6-8 p.m.
? Bethel Baptist Church will hold Trunk or Treat from 6-8 p.m. in the parking lot of County Market on Veterans Avenue in Vandalia.

Tuesday, November 1

ELECTION DAY – Polls are open from 6 a.m.-7 p.m.
? The Fayette County Hospital Auxiliary meets at noon in the FCH conference room.
? The Grandparents/Relatives Raising Children support group meets from 1-2 p.m. at Evans Public Library in Vandalia. The group meets monthly and provides support, education and access to additional resources, including financial. For more information, contact Trisha Katt at 1-217-347-7179, ext. 1062.
? Heartland Human Services will hold a Caregiver Connection seminar, "Stages of Alzheimer's Disease," from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the conference room at Brookstone Estates, 1607 W. Fillmore St., Vandalia. Refreshments will be provided.

Wednesday, November 2

? Evans Public Library in Vandalia will hold a story time at 10 a.m. Children of all ages are invited.
? The Vandalia Chamber of Commerce meets at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse.

Thursday, November 3

? The First United Methodist Men will hold their annual fish dinner, featuring locally caught fish, from 4-7 p.m. in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church, 127 N. Fourth St., Vandalia. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12 years of age. The proceeds benefit the Methodist Men's Coats and Shoes Project for Fayette County Children and Mulberry Grove Children at Christmas.

Friday, November 4

? Evans Public Library's Teen Advisory Board meets at 4 p.m. Teens interested in joining the board should contact Shawna Sprague at the library, 283-2824.

Saturday, November 5

? The 36th annual Perry Biggs Memorial Fiddle Contest and Bluegrass Show will be held at the Patoka Civic Center. Brenda Cook of Sullivan, Mo., opens the show at 5 p.m., and will be followed by The Worthing Family Bluegrass Band. The fiddlers begin playing at 6:25 p.m., with many of the Midwest's finest fiddle players competing for prize money and trophies. National open champion George Portz and his "Friends of Bluegrass" will also be performing, with a cajun set planned. Full dinners, sandwiches and desserts will be served all evening.
