? Evans Public Library's Homeschool Group meets from 1-2 p.m. at the library. Those interested in joining the group should contact Shawna Sprague at the library, 283-2824.
? The Vandalia Park District Board of Commissioners meets at 4:30 p.m. in the conference room at the Okaw Area Vocational Center in Vandalia.
? A candidates' forum featuring candidates for Fayette County circuit clerk, coroner and state's attorney is being held at 6 p.m. in the Little Theater at Vandalia Elementary School. It is sponsored by WPMB-WKRV Radio, The Leader-Union and Vandalia Chamber of Commerce.
? CenterPointe Church, located at 1616 Veterans Ave. in Vandalia, is holding free Weekly Fit Club sessions at 6 p.m. every Thursday.
? TOPS IL 1872, Ramsey, will meet at the Christian Church in Ramsey. Weigh-in is at 6:20 p.m. and the meeting is at 7 p.m.

Friday, October 21

? First Christian Church, located at Fifth and Randolph streets in Vandalia, will hold a rummage sale from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. All proceeds go back to the community, for programs such as Summer Lunches for Kids, Habitat for Humanity, 6:35 Food Pantry, Fayette County Food Pantry, Mobile Food Pantry, OUR PLACE Youth Center, DOVE, Woodhaven, Camp Walter Scott and Samaritan's Purse shoe boxes at Christmas.
? Evans Public Library in Vandalia will hold a Fantastic Friday at 4 p.m. Children up to age 10 are invited to listen to stories and decorate pumpkins. Registration is required; to register, call the library, 283-2824.
? The Vandalia Band Parents will hold their annual chili supper from 4:30-7 p.m. in the Vandalia Junior High School cafeteria. The menu includes a choice of chili or vegetable soup, sandwich, dessert and drink; or two hot dogs, chips, dessert and drink. The cost is $6 per person, and an unlimited bowl of chili or soup is available for an additional $1. A la carte items and carry-outs will be available. All proceeds go to the Vandalia Community Schools band program.
? A Cruise-In Night is being held from 5-10 p.m., weather permitting, at Embers Wood-Fired Pizza at 7 Mattes Ave. in Vandalia. It includes classic cars, live music and restaurant specials.
? Bingo will be held at the Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 Home. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo begins at 7 p.m. The kitchen will be open.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.
? Monster Manor, a haunted house at the former Washington School, provided by the Vandalia Swimming Pool staff, is open from 7-11 p.m. Admission is $6 per person.

Saturday, October 22

? First Christian Church, located at Fifth and Randolph streets in Vandalia, will hold a rummage sale 8 a.m.-noon.
? A benefit for Tim Grotts, who was injured in a motorcycle accident on July 1, will be held at 4 p.m. at the VFW Home in Vandalia. It includes a silent auction, raffle, food and drinks, and music.
? "Antiques Appraisal" to benefit Historical Vandalia will be held in the Vandalia First United Methodist Church Wesley Hall. It will start at 1 p.m., presented by Phil Lewis of Effingham. A $10 ticket will let the person take two items to be appraised; up to 100 items can be appraised during the afternoon. For those who do not want to take items to be appraised, but would just like to watch the appraisal of the articles, the tickets are $5. The tickets are available at the museum in Vandalia or by calling the museum at 283-4866. The proceeds will go toward the purchase of an elevator for the museum, to allow handicapped individuals to see items on display on the upper level of the museum.

Monday, October 24

? Midland Area Agency on Agency, SWAN Senior Services of Fayette County and CEFS Fayette County Outreach Office will hold a Medicare Part D drug plan enrollment event from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Kaskaskia College Vandalia Center, 2310 W. Fillmore St.
? The Vandalia Lions Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? Monster Manor, a haunted house at the former Washington School, provided by the Vandalia Swimming Pool staff, is open from 7-11 p.m. Admission is $6 per person.

Tuesday, October 25
? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa.
? A Cut-athon to benefit the Fayette County Cancer Fund will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Maranatha's Salon, Spa & Tanning, 925 New York Drive, Vandalia. Services offered will include simple nail polishing, men/women/children haircuts, and eyebrow and lip waxing only. Appointments are not necessary; walk-ins are welcome. Also that evening, donations of hair for Locks of Love and Wigs for Kids will be accepted.
? The Fayette County Health Department is seeking volunteers for its hospice volunteer program, and a meeting to explain the program will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., with lunch provided, at the FCHD office, 416 W. Edwards St., Vandalia. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP with Jami Lockart, hospice coordinator, at 283-7262; for more information, contact Lockart at that number.

Wednesday, October 26

? Bingo is held at the Vandalia Moose Lodge, starting at 7 p.m., with Lightning at 5:30 p.m.

? "Downtown Trick or Treat" will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in downtown Vandalia. It includes a story time at Evans Public Library at 10 a.m., trick-or-treating downtown from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (the library will hand out a list of participating merchants) and a costume contest for children up to 13 years old at Family Video at 12:30 p.m.
