? CenterPointe Church, located at 1616 Veterans Ave. in Vandalia, is holding free Weekly Fit Club sessions at 6 p.m. every Thursday.
? TOPS IL 1872, Ramsey, will meet at the Christian Church in Ramsey. Weigh-in is at 6:20 p.m. and the meeting is at 7 p.m.
? The Wall Dogs Mural Committee meets at 6 p.m. at the National Road Interpretive Center, 105 S. Fifth St., Vandalia. The public is invited.

Friday, August 26

? The Shoal Creek Chapter of ABATE will hold its Summer Bash on Friday and Saturday at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Butler. Gates open at noon on Friday, and the schedule includes a 5 p.m. washer tournament, human foosball at 7 p.m. and music by "Dirty Laundry" at 9 p.m.
? Evans Public Library in Vandalia is holding a Fantastic Friday at the library. Children up to age 10 are invited to listen to stories and make a tin foil painting. Registration is required; to sign up, call the library, 283-2824.
? Bingo will be held at the Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 Home. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo begins at 7 p.m. The kitchen will be open.
? St. Peter Prairie Days gets under way. The Friday activities include: 5 p.m., St. Peter Fire Department fish, chicken and ribeye dinner; 6 a.m., sand volleyball tournament begins; and 8 p.m., music by "Blind Man Drivin."
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.

Saturday, August 27

? St. Peter Prairie Days continues: 7 a.m., registration for 5K begins, with the run at 8 a.m.; 9:30 a.m., tractor pull registration; 11 a.m., lunch at St. Peter City Park; noon, bags tournament registration begins, with play at 1 p.m. and registration fee of $20 for two-man teams; 1 p.m., Prairie Days parade and sand volleyball tournament continues; 2 p.m., antique stock and modified antique tractor pull; 3 p.m., blacksmith demonstration; 3:30 p.m., corn husker and shredder demonstration; 4 p.m. cake walk and pedal tractor races on baseball diamond; 4:30-7 p.m., music by "3 River Roll; 5-8 p.m., supper served; 6 p.m., national anthem; 8:30 p.m., music by "Matt Poss Band"; and 9 p.m. Prairie Days raffle drawing.
? The Shoal Creek Chapter of ABATE Summer Bash continues. The schedule includes a blessing of the bikes at 8:30 a.m.; annual ride for rights at 9 a.m.; bike rodeo at 1:30 p.m.; bike show at 5 p.m.; and "Van Waylon Band" at 9 p.m. Advance tickets are $15 for ABATE members and $20 for the general public; tickets at the gate are $5 more.

? The Vandalia Lions Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.

Tuesday, August 30

? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa.
? A meet and greet with author Penny Richards, who will be signing copies of her new book, "An Untimely Frost," will be held at 6 p.m. at Old Capitol Wine Cellar, inside Something Special at Fourth and Gallatin street. More about Richards's book is on today's Opinion page (page 4A).
? Girl Scout registration for all Fayette County girls in grades K-12 will be held from 6-7 p.m. at Dairy Queen in Vandlaia. A parent or guardian must attend to complete registration forms. Those unable to attend can call 1-800-345-6858. The registration fee is $15, and financial assistance is available. Girls registering that night will receive a Dairy Queen treat. Adult volunteers and leaders are needed to form new troops and otherwise participate; attend registration night or call 1-800-345-6858.

Wednesday, August 31

? The Vandalia Moose Lodge is not holding bingo during the summer months. Bingo will resume at 7 p.m. on Sept. 7.
? Evans Public Library in Vandalia is holding a story time at 4 p.m. Children of all ages are invited.

Thursday, September 1

? The Fayette County Farm Bureau's marketing committee will hold its annual crop survey and steak dinner. The survey gets under way at 8 a.m. with breakfast in the Farm Bureau office basement; all interested in participating are to call the Farm Bureau, 283-3276, and to show up at that time. The steak dinner is at 6 p.m. at the Farm Bureau office, with Jim Riddle of Total Grain Marketing being the speaker; the cost is $5 and reservations are required. Contact the Farm Bureau at 283-3276 to make reservations for the dinner.
