Friday, August 5

? A rummage sale is being held from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Mother of Dolors Parish Center, 705 W. St. Clair St., Vandalia. It will include clothing for infants, children and adults, as well as kitchen items, furniture and books.
? Summer Lunches for Kids is offered from 11-11:30 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Lincoln Park, Rogier Park and Family YMCA of Fayette County in Vandalia, at the township building in Shobonier and the township shed in Vera; and every Wednesday from 11-11:30 at Lions Park in Ramsey and from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Brownstown.
? Evans Public Library's Teen Advisory Board meets at 4 p.m. at the library. Those interested in joining the board should contact Shawna Sprague at the library, 283-2824.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia. The group meets to: learn that drug abuse is an illness; encourage addicts to seek help; replace despair with hope; improve the family attitude; help individuals regain self-confidence.
? Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 and Unit 95 Auxiliary will hold bingo at the Legion Home. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bingo begins at 7 p.m. The kitchen will be open.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia. The group meets to: learn that drug abuse is an illness; encourage addicts to seek help; replace despair with hope; improve the family attitude; help individuals regain self-confidence.

Saturday, August 6

? The annual Carson's Lemonade Raid will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at County Market on Veterans Avenue in Vandalia. Carson LaDage, son of former Vandalia resident Todd LaDage and grandson of Vandalia residents Bill and Sharon LaDage, will again be on hand for the fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Donations will be accepted for lemonade given out during the event. Carson, 9, was diagnosed with a brain stem tumor about five years ago and has been a patient at St. Jude.
? The Fayette County Cancer Fund is holding its inaugural golf outing at Ramsey Lake Golf Course north of Ramsey. Registration begins at noon, and play begins at 1 p.m. The cost for the four-person scramble is $50 per person/$200 per team. The fee includes golf and cart, dinner and drinks on the course. A 50/50 drawing will be held. To register, contact Steve DeClerck, 292-8876.
? The Fayette County Health Department is holding a Family Fun Day to celebrate its 40th anniversary. It will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the back parking lot of the FCHD office, located at 416 W. Edwards St. in Vandalia. The event will include games, free lunch, sno cones, dunk tank, turtle races at noon, bingo, cake walk, bounce house and a drawing for a bike, charcoal grill and other prizes.

? The Shoal Creek Chapter of ABATE meets at 1 p.m. at the VFW Home on West St. Louis Avenue in Vandalia.

Monday, August 8

? ? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa.
? The Fayette County Board meets at 7 p.m. in the large courtroom at the Fayette County Courthouse.
? The budget and appropriations hearing for the Evans Public Library District will be held at 7 p.m. at the library. The monthly meeting of the Evans Public Library District Board of Trustees will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the library.

Wednesday, August 10

? Tools for School, which provides free school supplies for in-need students pre-kindergarten through junior college, will be operating from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1221 W. Fillmore St., Vandalia. All students must accompany their parents, and they are to enter through the north door of the church.
? Monday, August 15

? Backpack 2 School, sponsored by First United Methodist Church in Vandalia, will be held from 4-7 p.m. at the church's Family Center, located at the northwest corner of Fourth and Main streets. Free backpacks are given to all needy school children in Fayette County, and the event also includes free haircuts, games and activities, facepainting and drawings for gifts.
