Five arrested on mob action charges

Three adults and two juveniles have been charged for allegedly attacking a male and female at an area residence.
Information filed on Monday charged April Gates, 38; Brady W. Gates, 19; Ashley M. Swain, 19; and two juveniles, ages 16 and 17, all of Vandalia.
All five individuals have been charged with mob action for allegedly acting together in attacking a male and female on Friday evening. Mob action is a Class 4 felony punishable by up to three years in prison.
The three adults and the 17-year-old juvenile were arrested on charges of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
Brady Gates and the 16-year-old juvenile have been arrested on charges of domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to 364 days in the county jail, according to jail intake records.
The 16-year-old was arrested on a charge of criminal trespass to a residence, and April Gates has been charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for allegedly compelling a juvenile to participate in mob action.
