Records are meant to be broken, and last Thursday evening was no different for the Vandalia Community High School’s girls and boys track teams as they hosted a meet with Centralia, BSE, Patoka/Odin and Christ Our Rock Lutheran.
For the girls, Anna Miller was part of history twice. Miller set a new school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.74 seconds. Miller combined with Madeline Cade, Katie Tarkington and Madison Klanke set a new school record in the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:51.64.
For the boys, it was Curtis Gordon who assumed the role of record-breaker, as he set a new school record and personal best in the pole vault with a height of 15-feet, 7 inches.
Both teams continued action Tuesday evening, as the girls took seventh at the Mattoon Invite, while the boys finished third at the Cumberland Invite. As far as records go, Anna Miller set a new school record in the 300-meter hurdles with an impressive time of 47.53 seconds. For the boys, the 4×100-meter relay team set a new school record while finishing second overall, as Ethan Ferguson, Trevor Smalls, Blake Barth and Ethan Meyer finished the relay in 45.64 seconds.
