More Christmas fun coming up

Several weeks after Vandalia kicked off the holiday season with Olde Tyme Christmas, Fayette County is offering more holiday festivities in the next couple of weeks.
This Saturday, Soroptimist International of Vandalia is holding Breakfast with Santa from 8-10 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church. After that, downtown merchants are offering Super Santa Sales.
Saturday afternoon and evening, St. Elmo joins in on the holiday fun with its annual Christmas event. Christmas in St. Elmo features the lighting of the community Christmas tree, its Parade of Lights, visits with Santa in the fire station, and holiday crafts and music.
Next weekend, the Vandalia Statehouse will be hosting its two big holiday events.
Tickets are still available for Vandalia Historical Society's Christmas Gala on Friday evening. The $50 ticket price includes hors d'oeuvres, beverages, this year's Statehouse Christmas ornament and a one-year membership in the historical society. For more information or to RSVP by this Saturday morning, call 322-4411 or email to: [email protected]
Then, on the following night, the Vandalia Statehouse is holding its annual Christmas Open House at 6 p.m.
As always, that event includes holiday music and treats, and guided tours of the Statehouse, which will be bathed in candelight for the evening. And, of course, the first 100 families to register will receive this year's special edition Christmas ornament.
Between the special events and Christmas gifts offered by area merchants, there are plenty of reasons to stay home and shop locally this holiday season.
