Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball
The eight-grade VJHS boys basketball team improved to 4-0 last Thursday, defeating Ramsey, 45-17.
Matthew Wells was the leading scorer with 16. Thomas Rithcey and Jacob Fickes rounded out the scoring with 10 and six, respectively.
The eighth-grade Vandals kept its perfect record alive with a 54-36 win over Altamont Tuesday night.
Top scorers were Thomas Ritchey and Matthew Wells, with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
The seventh-grade VJHS boys basketball team improved to 4-1 with a 46-13 win over Ramsey last Thursday. Markus Isaiah had a team-high 10 points.
Other scorers were Drew Thompson, with nine; Hayden Marquardt, with seven; Holden Wilkerson, with four; Cole Tarkington, with four; and Gaige Beall, with five.
The seventh-grade squad continued its winning ways with a 44-38 win over Altamont Tuesday night. Isaiah dominated with team-high 32 points.
Tarkington complemented with six points.
Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball
The eighth-grade Lady Vandals dropped to 9-8 last Tuesday, losing 22-16 to Hillsboro.
Alisha Swain led the Vandalia offense with six points. Other scorers were Lanee McNary and Amelia Smith with five apiece.
South Central Girls Basketball
The South Central Lady Cougars opened the season with a 36-26 win over Cowden Herrick/Beecher City Monday night.
The game opened up with a close first quarter, as South Central was able to take a 7-6 advantage.
However, senior guard Abbey Hahn took over in the second, scoring seven points to give the Cougars a 24-9 lead at halftime.
CHBC was able to fight back in the second half, outscoring South Central 17-14, but ultimately coming up short as the Cougars held on for the win.
Hahn led the way with a team-high 11 points. Other contributors were Keely Smith, with nine points; Xada Slater, with five points; Sidney Wilkins, with four points; Alannah Sigrist, with six points; and Autumn McCoy, with three points.
SEB Spirit Night
The St. Elmo/Brownstown High School cheerleaders will be sponsoring Spirit Night this Friday, starting at 7 p.m.
The event will be held in the SEHS gym. Cost of admission is one canned item or $1.
There will also be a chili supper in the SEHS cafeteria before, running from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Cost of admission is $6 a person.
BSE Girl's Basketball
The Brownstown/St. Elmo girls basketball team opened up the season with a 60-42 loss at Mt. Olive Tuesday night.
Leading the BSE squad was Kyrstyn Fitch, with 16 points, five rebounds and two steals. Other contributors were: Morgan Brown, with 11 points; Emily Bone, with six points and 10 rebounds; and Dana Shelton, with three points.
