? Soroptimist International of Vandalia meets at noon at Ponderosa Steak House in Vandalia.
? The United Methodist Men will hold their annual fish fry from 4-7 p.m. in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church, 127 N. Fourth St. in Vandalia. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and under. The proceeds go to the Men's Coats and Shoes Project for Fayette County children and Mulberry Grove children at Christmas.
? Soroptimist International of Vandalia is holding a public celebration of its 50th anniversary from 5-7 p.m. at The Copper Penny Bar and Grille, 125 S. Fourth St. Free appetizers and drinks will be available while they last.
? CenterPointe Church, located at 1616 Veterans Ave. in Vandalia, is holding free Weekly Fit Club sessions at 6 p.m. every Thursday.
? TOPS IL 1872, Ramsey, will meet at the Christian Church in Ramsey. Weigh-in is at 6:20 p.m. and the meeting is at 7 p.m.
? A NAR-ANON meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia. The group meets to: learn that drug abuse is an illness; encourage addicts to seek help; replace despair with hope; improve the family attitude; help individuals regain self-confidence.

Friday, Nov. 6

? Evans Public Library's Teen Advisory Board meets at 4 p.m. Teens interested in joining the board should contact Shawna Sprague at the library, 283-2824.
? Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 is holding a chicken dinner from 5-6:30 p.m., with bingo to follow at 7 p.m.
? Vandalia Elementary School is holding its annual Fun Fair. A chili supper runs from 5-7 p.m., with the cost being $5 for adults and $3 for children, with ala carte items available for $2. A carnival runs from 5:30-7:30 p.m. During the Fun Fair, Hosick Motors will again hold its Chrysler Drive for Kids, with adults being able to generate funds for the school by taking test drives.
? Pro Wrestling Epic will present "Beatdown in Brownstown" at 6:30 p.m. in the Brownstown Junior-Senior High School gym. The pro wrestling program benefits the district's athletic department and public relations fund. Tickets are $12 for floor seats, $10 for bleacher seats and $5 for children age 12 and under. Floor seats can be reserved by calling the BHS office, 427-3839. Tickets will be sold at the door on the night of the wrestling.
? The Vandalia Community High School talent show will be held at 7 p.m. in the VCHS gym, with 10 acts scheduled to perform. Admission is $3 per person.

Saturday, Nov. 7

? The annual Holiday Open House in Brownstown will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Brownstown Elementary School cafeteria.
? The Patoka Civic Center is hosting the 35th annual Perry Biggs Memorial Fiddle Contest and Bluegrass Show. Brenda Cook of Sullivan, Mo., opens the show at 5 p.m., followed by the Worthington Family bluegrass band. Other performers include Lane Mayfield of Vandalia and national open fiddle champion George Portz and His Friends of Bluegrass. A cajun music set will be performed. The fiddle contest begins at 6:15 p.m. Full dinners, sandwiches and desserts will be served all evening.

Sunday, Nov. 8

? Metro Community Church holds its 10 a.m. services at the former Jefferson Primary School on West Jefferson Street in Vandalia.
? The Fayette County Extension Foundation is holding a soup luncheon from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Brownstown Elementary School cafeteria. The menu includes a choice of chili or vegetable soup, peanut butter sandwich, hot dog, carrots and celery, homemade desserts and drink. Free-will donations for the meal will be accepted.
? Brownstown Post 9770 and Vandalia Boy Scout Troop No. 401 will co-host a flag retirement ceremony at 5 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia. Anyone having United States flags that are worn and unserviceable are asked to take them to the ceremony for proper disposal. For more information, contact the church office, 283-1970.

Monday, Nov. 9

? The Vandalia Lions Club meets at America's Best Value Inn. The executive board meets at 5:15 p.m., and the meal and regular club meeting are at 6 p.m.
? The Vandalia Eagles Club hosts bingo at 7 p.m. Those attending are asked to take non-perishable food items for Fayette County Outreach and a stuffed animal to be used by the Vandalia Police Department.

Tuesday, Nov. 10

? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? Rainbow Reflections, a local grief support group, will meet from 6-7 p.m. in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church, 127 N. Fourth St., Vandalia. Those planning to attend the meeting are asked to contact Mary Miller at 292-5366.
? The Fayette County Board meets at 7 p.m. in the large courtroom at the Fayette County Courthouse.
? The Evans Public Library District Board of Trustees meets at 7:30 p.m. at the library.

Wednesday, Nov. 11

VETERANS DAY
? Northside Christian Church and Brownstown VFW Post 9770 will hold a Veterans Day program at the church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia. The program starts precisely at 11 a.m. with the playing of "Taps." The guest  speaker is Blaine Redman, an Army veteran now serving as an officer with the Vandalia Police Department. ? The St. Elmo veterans will host the annual Veterans Day flag ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial on U.S. Route 40, St. Elmo. Flags will be retired and presented to the donors upon inspection. The general public is invited to attend. Services will be moved inside the Phillips Building if weather does not cooperate.
? The Vandalia Eagles Aerie and Auxiliary meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Eagles Club.
