Halloween in Vandalia

The Vandalia Lions Club’s 72nd annual Halloween parade next Thursday is among the events and activities on the calendar.
The parade kicks off at 7 p.m., following the traditional route on Gallatin Street, from Seventh Street to Third Street.
As in the past, parade lineup and registration begins at 5 p.m. on Eighth Street in the area of the Fayette County Courthouse and the former Washington School.
With the assistance of local businesses, the Lions Club is offering eight cash prizes in the float category and four cash prizes in the walking groups category:
Float Category
• First – Ponderosa, KFC/Taco Bell, Ramada Inn Award, $225.
• Second – Bluff Equipment Award, $175.
• Third – Fayette County Real Estate/6th Street Pub Award, $150.
• Fourth – Patrick Maag & Melanie Bowles-Edward Jones Investments Award, $125.
• Fifth – Luallen, Cearlock, Barth and Burnam Award, $100.
• Sixth – Double D Plumbing and Heating Award, $100.
• Seventh – Subway Restaurant Award, $100.
• Eighth – Walmart Award, $75.
Walking Groups
First – Dennis Ehrat/Brock Brannon-Investment Centers of America Award, $150.
Second – Sloan Equipment Award, $125.
Third – Midwest Tractor Sales Inc. Award, $100.
Fourth – First National Bank of Vandalia Award, $100.
Trick or Treat
Next Saturday, Oct. 31, is Trick or Treat Night in Vandalia, from 6-8 p.m.
‘Hospital of Horrors’
The Vandalia Swimming Pool staff is holding its annual haunted house at the former Washington School in the 300 block of South Eighth Street under the following schedule:
• Friday – 7-11 p.m.
• Saturday – 7-11 p.m.
• Thursday, Oct. 29 – After the Vandalia Lions Club Halloween parade, until 10:30 p.m.
• Friday, Oct. 30 – 7-11 p.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 31 – 7:30-11 p.m.
