Thursday, September 3

? Those wishing to use the high dive at the Vandalia Swimming Pool have until 5 p.m. on Monday, when the pool closes for the season. The high dive will be removed through pool renovations.
? Soroptimist International meets at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? CenterPointe Church, located at 1616 Veterans Ave. in Vandalia, is holding free Weekly Fit Club sessions at 6 p.m. every Thursday.
? TOPS IL 1872, Ramsey, will meet at the Christian Church in Ramsey. Weigh-in is at 6:20 p.m. and the meeting is at 7 p.m.
? A NAR-ANON meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia. The group meets to: learn that drug abuse is an illness; encourage addicts to seek help; replace despair with hope; improve the family attitude; help individuals regain self-confidence.

Friday, September 4

? Evans Public Library’s Teen Advisory Board will meet at 4 p.m. Teens interested in participating should contact Shawna Sprague at the library at 283-2824.
? Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 will hold bingo at the Legion Home, 321 S. Seventh St., Vandalia.
? Coal Creek Days will be held from 4 p.m. on Friday until 6 p.m. on Sunday at Coal Creek Village in the northeast corner of the Tri-County Fairgrounds in Pana. It includes Arrested Mayhem on Saturday and Sunday, with performers including David Denning  and Anthony Valencia of Vandalia and Paul Meyerholz, formerly of Ramsey. The schedule includes bluegrass music at 5 p.m. on Saturday and an 8:30 a.m. church service on Sunday.
? The Patoka Fall Festival gets under way with a carnival starting at 6 p.m., and a demo derby and power wheels derby at 7 p.m.

Saturday, September 5

? The Patoka Fall Festival continues with a 5K run at 8 a.m., with registration from 7-7:45 a.m.; parade at 11 a.m.; food by Country Rhodes and a pie stand from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; carnival; sand volleyball; food and craft vendors; pedal pull at 1 p.m.; bingo at 2 p.m.; Christian music by Tim Murfin's band from 2-4 p.m.; performance by Jamie Nattier from 4-6 p.m.; and C-Bar Rodeo at 7 p.m.
? The St.Elmo Labor Day Celebration gets under way with a 5K run/walk at 8 a.m.; city-wide garage sales; farmers' market; pet parade at 4 p.m.; cruise-in and dance from 6-9 p.m.; and fireworks at 9 p.m. at Tower Lake.

Sunday, September 6

? The St. Elmo Labor Day Celebration continues with gospel music at 6 p.m. at St. Elmo Christian Church.

Monday, September 7

? Cages, located at 215 S. Third St. in Vandalia, will hold its seventh annual Labor Day Bike Show. Registration is from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and judging is at 2 pm. The entry fee of $15 includes a free corn dog. The event includes an attendance drawing, cash and door prizes, music, swap meet, burnout plate and mechanical bull. Proceeds go to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
? The St. Elmo Labor Day Celebration continues with a pancake breakfast from 6-9:30 a.m. at the fire station; concession stands opening at 9 a.m.; parade at 10:30 a.m.; dunking booth and inflatables from noon-6 p.m.; bingo from 1-5 p.m.; St. Elmo Lions' cake walk at 5 p.m.; Citizen of the Year announcement at 6:15 p.m.; music by "Straight Lace" from 6:30-9:30 p.m; St. Elmo Business Association 50/50 drawing at 8 p.m.

Tuesday, September 8

? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? The Evans Public Library District Board of Trustees meets at 7:30 p.m. at the library.
? The Fayette County Board meets at 7 p.m. in the large courtroom at city hall.
? The Vandalia City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.

Wednesday, September 9

? The Vandalia Eagles Aerie and Auxiliary will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Eagles Club.
