Traffic flow will require some patience

There is no perfect solution.
Traffic is going to get more congested on the north end of Vandalia in a few weeks, and there's not really anything that can be done about it.
The shifting of students from Jefferson Primary School to Vandalia Elementary School means that more parents will be dropping off and picking up their children before and after school each day.
School district employees have known for some time that this was coming, and they've tried to work out the best possible plan for traffic flow, involving Police Chief Jeff Ray in the process.
The stark reality is that there is a limited number of ways to traverse in and out of VES and the junior high.
On Monday, the Vandalia City Council approved an ordinance amendment that allows only right turns onto Eighth Street from Fletcher and onto Fillmore from Fletcher. While that should help traffic flow in the morning and afternoon on school days, you have to remember that there are going to be a whole lot of vehicles in that area at those times.
Now, it's just going to take a little patience on the part of parents who will be dropping off and picking up their children.
