Right turn only at 8th/Fletcher before, after school

The Vandalia City Council took action on Monday that is designed to improve traffic flow at a busy intersection before and after school.
The council approved an ordinance amendment that stipulates that on school days between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m., and from 2-4 p.m., both eastbound and westbound motorists on Fletcher Street may make only right turns onto Eighth Street.
It also stipulates that southbound motorists on Fletcher Street may only make right turns onto Fillmore Street.
Aldermen Mike Hobler, Joel Rebbe, Ken Hubler, Jerry Swarm and B. John Clark voted for the amendment, and Andy Lester, Dorothy Crawford and Russ Stunkel were not present for the meeting.
As the measure was approved, Hobler said he would like the Vandalia School District make adjustments to prevent buses lining up in front of the high school to the extent that motorists cannot get onto Orchard Street.
Police Chief Jeff Ray said that he would talk to Mike Critcheloe, the district’s transportation supervisor, about that issue.
