Effingham – Early on Wednesday, an Illinois State Police District 12 Trooper located an Ohio child identified in an early morning Amber Alert.
At approximately 2:22 a.m. on Wednesday, District 12 telecommunications advised troopers of an Amber Alert issued by the Ohio State Highway Patrol (Jefferson County, Ohio).
The Amber Alert indicated a 7-year-old girl was abducted by her estranged father, Matthew Scott Montgomery, and was possibly en route to Missouri via Interstate 70.
At approximately 3 a.m. on Wednesday, an ISP District 12 Trooper observed a vehicle that matched the description provided in the Amber Alert on Interstate 70, near Vandalia.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Montgomery, and the 7-year-old girl was recovered unharmed. Montgomery was arrested without incident and transported to the Fayette County jail.
“The Illinois State Police is committed to performing duties to meet the needs of the public,” said Illinois State Police District 12 Commander, Captain Kelly Hodge. Montgomery, a 30-year-old resident of O’Fallon, Mo., is currently being held in the Fayette County Jail.
