Take in the Lincoln Festival

While you are enjoying an outdoor theater, you probably won't even notice that you are taking in a history lesson.
The third annual Lincoln Heritage Festival is being held on Saturday and Sunday in Vandalia's parks along Fillmore Street.
Sandra Leidner, a former mayor, and the Vandalia Tourism  Committee are once again providing a two-day festival that includes a wide variety of activities.
Once again, the festival provides five theater performances, including ones that tell about Abraham Lincoln's time in Vandalia and our time as the state capital.
Also on the schedule are civil war re-enactments, period arts and crafts, live music, children's activities and a Civil War Ball on Saturday evening.
If you haven't been to one of these festivals, it's well worth your time to see what they offer. And even if you have, there are some new features, as well as some popular ones from previous festivals.
Throughout the day on Saturday and through mid-afternoon on Sunday, there are many things bound to draw your interest.
Take a look at the schedule that appears in this issue and then head out to our parks for an enjoyable weekend.
