The opening of Vandalia’s new dog park will be celebrated with a variety of activities on Saturday morning.
The new park, created through a partnership involving the Vandalia Park District and Second Chance Animal Rescue, is located at the south end of Madison Park, at the east end of Madison and Main streets.
The involvement of Second Chance has included gaining sponsorships that have helped fund benches and other features at the fenced-in park.
The Saturday activities will include a blessing of the park and dogs that are present by Simon Glaybrook at 10:30 a.m.
The grand opening will include a couple of raffles, including one by PAWtime Pet Boarding for a dog bed and by Little Blue Eyes for a dog bed, with that local business providing matching funds up to $100.
Also participating in the grand opening is Mosquito Authority, which has treated the park for mosquitoes and ticks, and Brown Dawg Bakery.
Bryan Glidden will show how his service dog performs, and Countryside Pet Clinic will offer vaccinations, nail trims and microchipping at reduced prices, as well as complimentary exams, as well as totes with goodies inside. Cash only will be accepted for payment of services provided by Countryside that day.
