The seventh-grade Brownstown-St. Elmo girls track team capped a successful season by taking third place at the Illinois Elementary School Association 7A State Track Meet on Saturday in East Peoria.
The Lady Bombers, coached by Erica Foltz scored 24 points, tying Lexington for third place. Lewistown Central won the meet with 40 points, and Danville Schlarman scored 33 points.
Brownstown-St. Elmo’s state meet finish came after winning the team’s first sectional title on May 9 and then taking second at the National Trail Conference meet on May 12.
Claire Wilhour led the Lady Bombers by winning the 400-meter dash, taking third place in the 100-meter hurdles and finishing 30th in the 100-meter dash.
Natalie Oberlink earned a fifth-place medal in the discus and placed 17th in the shot put.
Vayda Smith also won a fifth-place medal, in the 400-meter dash, and placed 13th in the 800-meter run and 20th in the long jump.
Also competing for the Lady Bombers at the state meet were Kaylee Laws, who placed 32nd in the shot put, and the 4×100 relay team of Smith, Cassidy Moss, Elly Wilhour, Claire Wilhour and alternate Kaylie Curry.
Eighth-grader Teagan Christensen completed in the eighth-grade high jump and finished in a tie for 20th place.
At the Effingham St. Anthony sectional meet, the Lady Bombers edged Teutopolis, 74.75-73.
At the NTC meet, Brownstown-St. Elmo totaled 98 points, finishing behind Cowden-Herrick, who won the meet with 107 points.
