St. Elmo Junior-Senior High School was temporarily on lockdown status this morning.
St. Elmo Superintendent Deb Philpot issued the following press release about the incident:
This morning we had a student to proclaim that another student possibly had brought a gun to school when he entered the jr/sr high school building. We immediately went on a high level of lock down status to ensure that students were safe until we could determine if the claim was true. After a brief period, investigation, and searches, it was determined that the proclamation was false and the student eventually admitted that the story was false. All students were safe, the lock down is now over and school is resuming as normal.
