Friday, May 8

? SAFE (Sexual Assault and Family Emergencies) will hold cosmic bingo at the Vandalia Moose Lodge. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $25 in advance or $30 at the door; admission includes six bingo cards, cosmic dabber and cosmic hat, with additional cards available for $5. To make reservations, contact Sherry Hawkins at SAFE, 283-1414.
? The Vandalia Community High School art show will be held from 3:30-6 p.m. at the Okaw Area Vocational Center in Vandalia.

Saturday, May 9

? Members of Brownstown VFW Post 9770 will be selling poppies, beginning at 8 a.m.
? The annual Pilcher Cemetery cleanup day begins at 9 a.m.
? The National Association of Letter Carriers, U.S. Postal Service and Feeding America are holding their annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive. Residents are asked to leave sturdy bags with non-perishable foods such as canned soup and vegetables, peanut butter, pasta, rice and cereal next to their mailboxes prior to their mail delivery times.
? A benefit for Retta Evans, who is battling lung cancer, will be held from 3-7 p.m. at the Vandalia Eagles Club, 112, N. Sixth St., Vandalia. The band "Legends" is performing from 8 p.m.-midnight.
? The Vandalia Elementary School Honor Chorus will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the VES gym.

Monday, May 11

? The "We Choose Health" Community Walk will continue to be held at Brownstown Elementary on Mondays when school is in session. Anyone who walks at least 20 minutes between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. may register to win monthly prizes of Subway Sandwiches.  In May, a drawing will be held for two adult bicycles. The Brownstown Elementary Gym will be used during inclement weather.  Donations to walk are not required, but any donations in March and April are designated for the Brownstown Fire Department/EMS-First Responders.
? The Vandalia Lions Club meets at America's Best Value Inn. The executive board meets at 5:15 p.m., and the meal and regular club meeting are at 6 pm.

Tuesday, May 12

? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? Rainbow Reflections, a grief support group, meets from 6-7 p.m. in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church, 127 N. Fourth St., Vandalia. Those planning to attend are asked to contact Mary Miller at 292-5366.
? The Fayette County Board meets at 7 p.m. in the large courtroom at the Fayette County Courthouse.
? The Evans Public Library District Board of Trustees meets at 7 p.m. at the library.

Wednesday, May 13

? The Vandalia Eagles Aerie and Auxiliary meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Eagles Club.

Friday, May 15

? An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 8 a.m.-noon at Fulton & Dunn Dental, 2102 W. Randolph St., Vandalia.
? Fulton and Dunn Dental will offer free dental care to as many adults as possible from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. through its second annual Dentistry from the Heart. Registration begins at 7 a.m. Participants will have a choice of one free dental cleaning, filling or extraction, and they will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
