Emerick awarded $2,500 for FFA chapter

A local farming family recently won $2,500 for the Vandalia FFA chapter.

Tim and Patti Emerick applied for the grant award from America’s Farmers Grow Communities program through the Monsanto Fund.
The Emericks applied for the grant funds for the past four or five years, Tim Emerick said, adding that it was easy for his family to decide who the grant money should go to.
He said that both he and his brother, Gary, were members of the FFA, and that he now employs an FFA member.
“Our family has a long and strong relationship with the FFA,” Emerick said. “It’s an honor for us to do this.”
Steve Knebel, adviser of the Vandalia FFA chapter, said the money will be used for a number of things, including making a donation to the local food pantry, furthering members’ education and improving community awareness on the importance of agriculture.
