Mulberry Grove eliminates St. Elmo/Brownstown

Mulberry Grove advanced to the second round of the regionals by defeating St. Elmo/Brownstown, 53-47, in an overtime contest on Monday.
Ty James scored 18 points for the aces, and Austin Redfern added 15 as the Aces advanced to a second-round game against No. 1 seed Odin on Wednesday.
Mulberry Grove scored seven points in the opening quarter while limiting the Eagles to a basket by Cole Smithson.
But St. Elmo fought back in the second quarter, outscoring the Aces 23-13. In that quarter, Malachi Maxey drilled two three-pointers and added five more points on a two-pointer and three free throws.
Mulberry Grove took control of the game in the third quarter with a 16-8 scoring edge, then the Eagles forced overtime by holding a two-point edge in the fourth. Landon Feezel scored seven of 10 St. Elmo/Brownstown points in the fourth quarter.
In overtime, James scored seven of the Aces’ 10 points in giving Mulberry Grove the win.
