Monday afternoon, there was considerable traffic through Vandalia, even after more than 10 inches of snow fell late Sunday and early Monday. The fact that there was less traffic than normal was mostly due to the fact that Presidents' Day was being observed.
Those who wanted to get around Vandalia could do so because the city of Vandalia's public works crew were on the job on their day off.
The effort that the city workers put into clearing the streets during and after a winter storm is oftentimes taken for granted. You want to how fortunate we are? Go to other towns after a storm like this week's – you'll see that they don't clear the streets like our city crew.
We appreciate that the city dedicates the manpower and finances necessary to make streets passable, and we hope you do, also.
