PETERSBURG — The Vandalia Community High School wrestling team improved to 24-7 in duals after two close wins on Saturday.
Vandalia defeated Beardstown, 40-39.
The Vandals also edged Petersburg-PORTA, 40-37.
Beardstown won by forfeit at 106 pounds, but Vandalia's Jarrett Paslay won by forfeit at 113.
Jake Lux of Beardstown defeated Chaston Womack, 3-2, at 120. Ryne Lipsey of Vandalia pinned Casimir Amare in 42 seconds at 126.
Luke Tessman won by forfeit at 132, but Beardstown's Jake Savage won by fall over Cody Phillips at 138. Clayton Thurman of Beardstown won by fall over Wyatt Goade at 145.
Beardstown won by forfeit at 152, 160 and 170.
Vandalia's Jake Stewart earned an 11-2 decision over Colt Hoenes at 182. Bobby Bradley (195) and Kendrick Woolsey (220) both won their matches by fall in less than two minutes. Bradley pinned Blake Brown and Woolsey pinned Mason Goodrich. Vandalia's Nick Trible won by forfeit at heavyweight and the Vandals earned the win, 40-39.
In the dual vs. PORTA, the Vandals were open at 106. PORTA's R.J. Moreno defeated Paslay, 2-0, at 113. Womack won by fall in 1:59 over Josh Suehring at 120. Trey Hild of PORTA defeated Lipsey, 9-1, at 126.
Tessman won by forfeit at 132, Phillips won by fall at 138 and Goade lost by fall at 145.
PORTA won by forfeit at 152, 160 and 170.
Stewart defeated Seth Honakala, 8-0, at 182. Bradley won by fall over Will Heikes at 195.
Woolsey and Trible both won by forfeit, and the Vandals earned yet another close dual victory.
Vandals earn lopsided win
HILLSBORO — The Vandalia Vandals earned a 54-6 wrestling victory at Hillsboro on Wednesday.
There were only six actual matches on the night, with Vandalia winning five.
Vandalia's Jarrett Paslay won by fall over Kain Durbin in 1:06 at 113 pounds.
Ryne Lipsey pinned Hillsboro's Tony Perfetti in 2:35 at 126, while Luke Tessman earned a 9-5 decision over Kyle Twitty at 132.
At 145, Hillsboro's Mitchell Law pinned Wyatt Goade.
Vandalia's Dalton Blankenship pinned Chase Viewig in 1:02 at 160, while Jake Stewart defeated Gavin Twitty, 11-9, at 182.
Vandalia's Chaston Womack (120), Cody Phillips (138), Bobby Bradley (195), Kendrick Woolsey (220) and Nick Trible (285) all won their respective matches by forfeit.
Both teams were open at 106, 152 and 170.
The match was originally scheduled for Dec. 11, but had been postponed due to the weather.
The Vandals were scheduled to compete in O'Fallon on Wednesday night.
