Area boys: Patoka beats SEB, falls to Altamont

PATOKA — Two of the top small school boys basketball teams in the region met on Saturday in Patoka.
In the end, Altamont earned a 63-48 win over the host Warriors.
Jered Cain scored 16 points to lead Patoka (13-6). Garrett Belcher had 12 and Tyler Back added 10 for the Warriors.
Adam Mayhaus poured in 32 points for the Indians, while Ryan Armstrong scored 27. Altamont made 26 of 33 free throws, while Patoka connected on just 9 of 20 at the foul line.
Patoka had a 12-11 lead after one period of play. Cain had to go to the bench with two fouls, and Altamont pulled ahead.
By the break, the Indians had built a 32-21 lead. Altamont took a 49-35 lead into the fourth quarter.
Both teams were playing less than 24 hours after winning games on Friday night.

Patoka beats SEB
ST. ELMO — An area showdown went Patoka's way, as the Warriors earned a 57-47 road victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown on Friday night.
Dylan Back scored 24 points and eight rebounds for Patoka, knocking down five three-pointers along the way. Tyler Back scored 18 points for the Warriors, and Jered Cain had eight points and eight rebounds.
Malachi Maxey scored 13 points for the Eagles. Three others — Landon Feezel, Brock Oberlink and Kyle Hardimon — scored eight points apiece. Feezel also pulled down 10 rebounds for SEB (5-12).
The first half was extemely close, as Patoka took a 27-24 lead into halftime. By the time the third period ended, Patoka's lead was 37-32. The Warriors outscored the Eagles, 20-15, in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Patoka made 13 of 19 free throws in the final frame. Tyler Back made eight late free throws.

Dieterich tops Cougars, stays undefeated
FARINA — Dieterich remained undefeated on the season with a 71-45 victory over South Central on Friday night.
The Cougars stayed close early, but Dieterich used a 24-11 second period to take control of the game.
The visitors were ahead, 38-21, at intermission. Dieterich then outscored South Central, 18-9, in the third period to take a comfortable 56-30 lead.
Dre Hill scored 10 points for the Cougars, while Brett Harmeier added eight and Dylen Brauer added seven.
South Central fell to 6-11 on the season.
Cougars beat Stew-Stras
FARINA — Harmeier led the way as the South Central Cougars defeated Stewardson-Strasburg, 50-39, last Tuesday night.
A senior guard, Harmeier scored 15 points to lead the Cougars. Jace Wilkins also reached double figures with 11 points.
Up 12-10 after one period, South Central outscored Stew-Stras, 16-11, in the second period to pull away.

Aces put up 91 points
CLAY CITY — The Mulberry Grove Aces nearly reached 100 points in Saturday's 91-84 win over Clay City.
The Aces took a 31-14 lead right away, and held off the hosts late. Ty James scored 27 points for Mulberry Grove and Damian Latham added 26. Shawn Iberg contributed 20 points for the Aces.
