Eagles leave VHT without a win

The St. Elmo/Brownstown Eagles didn't want to leave the Vandalia Holiday Tournament without a win.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, they did.
Pana rolled past St. Elmo/Brownstown, 62-29, in Tuesday's ninth-place game of VHT.
The Eagles stayed close early, but cold shooting and numerous turnovers doomed SEB in this one. The loss left SEB winless in five tournament games.
Landon Feezel scored 10 points for the Eagles, while Kyle Hardimon added eight points and had five rebounds. SEB made only nine of 26 two-pointers and one of eight three-pointers.
Taking on a school nearly twice its size, SEB stayed close early.
Malachi Maxey and Feezel handled most of the scoring for the Eagles in the first period, and the game was tied at 13.
But Pana ended the first period on an 8-0 run, taking advantage of four SEB turnovers.
Those points gave Pana a 21-13 lead. The Panthers then pushed ahead, 26-15, early in the second quarter.
The Panthers finished the first half on a 6-0 run for a 34-19 halftime lead. St. Elmo only managed six points in the second quarter.
Pana put the game away with a 14-2 run to start the third period. During the stretch, the Eagles struggled offensively, turning the ball over again and again.
Pana had a 48-21 lead with two minutes left in the third period. The Panthers held a comfortable 55-25 lead entering the fourth period, and the game was all but over.
There was a running clock late in the game, as Pana had pushed its lead past 30 points.
Adam Miller scored 16 points to lead Pana and Nik Galvin added 12.
The Eagles didn't win a game at the VHT, but they did gain valuable experience against larger schools.
