Vandals win three wrestling duals

WHITFIELD, Mo. — The Vandalia Community High School wrestling team won all three duals at Whitfield, Mo. on Friday.
The Vandals are now 7-2 in duals.
Vandalia dominated St. Clair, 61-6. Vandalia won 12 of 13 matches against the St. Clair Bulldogs.
Trevor Philpot defeated Jason Landing, 4-1, at 113 pounds. Jarrett Paslay pinned Thomas Maple at 120, Ryne Lipsey won by fall over Lucas Davis at 126 and Luke Tessman earned a 6-2 win over Kris Heembrack at 132.
Cody Phillips pinned Keven Benton at 138, Garrett Stewart earned a 9-0 decision over Seth Smith at 145 and Adam Palmer won by fall in 1:28 against Cole Baker.
Dalton Blankenship pinned Codie Stroup in 2:43 at 160, but St. Clair's Josh Richards pinned Kolten Kaiser at 170. That was St. Clair's only win of the dual.
The Vandals won four straight matches to finish off the dual.
Jake Stewart pinned Dustin Whisenhunt at 182, Bobby Bradley pinned Josh Johnson in only 21 seconds at 195, Kendrick Woolsey pinned Charles Dingley in 1:22 at 220 and Gabe Valencia defeated Steven George, 8-4, at heavyweight.
Both teams were open at 106.
Vandalia edged Kirkwood, 35-34. Kirkwood won by forfeit at 106. Kirkwood's Jonathan Martin defeated Philpot, 7-2, at 113. Chaston Womack of Vandalia earned a 1-0 win over Donovan Cook at 120. Lipsey defeated Tristen Frisella, 12-8, at 126.
Kirkwood then strung together five-straight wins. Collin Hodo beat Tessman, 10-0, at 132, and Brian Mackenzie pinned Phillips at 138.
Paul Knoll earned a 6-4 decision over Garrett Stewart at 145. Charlie McCracken pinned Palmer at 152 and Kirkwood's Tyler Stabler pinned Kaiser at 160.
Bumping up to 170, Blankenship earned a tech fall, 18-1, over Courtney Billops. Jake Stewart pinned Edward Bottom of Kirkwood at 182 and Bradley won by fall over Jared McAvoy at 195.
Woolsey and Valencia of Vandalia won by forfeit at 220 and 285, respectively. Those points gave the Vandals the win.
The Vandals beat host Whitfield, 34-30.
Whitfield's Mike McAteer beat Paslay, 12-5, at 113. JR Ditter of Whitfield edged Womack, 4-3, at 120. Lipsey pinned Calvin Bidner in nine seconds at 126, Tessman beat Richard Jordan, 11-0, at 132, and Phillips won by forfeit at 138.
Whitfield won three-straight matches, with Dylan Shortwell (145), Noah Elmore (152) and Kurtis Hahn (160) earning wins over Garrett Stewart, Palmer and Blankenship. Hahn defeated Blankenship, 8-3.
Kaiser pinned Will Georges in 43 seconds and Jake Stewart won by fall over Mac Wylie in 1:05. Whitfield's Max Darrah edged Bradley, 2-1, at 195. Woolsey pinned Zach Frankel in 38 seconds at 220.
Whitfield's Sam Shueddig pinned Valencia at heavyweight, but the Vandals earned the close win to finish the event at 3-0.  
The Vandals will be off until the New Year's Challenge in Champaign.
