BSE girls knock off Cougars

BROWNSTOWN — A big first-half carried the Brownstown/St. Elmo girls basketball team to 42-30 victory over South Central on Monday night.
BSE raced out to a 28-11 lead by intermission en route to the victory.
Sophomore post player Elissa Baron scored 12 points to lead the Lady Bombers. Kyrstyn Fitch added eight points.
Sophomore guard Abby Hahn scored 15 points to lead the Cougars. Freshman Keely Smith added eight points off the bench.
For South Central, a poor start was too much to overcome.
"You could tell that we had not played in 10 days," South Central Coach Gary Kapper said. "Everything that could have went wrong did in the first half."
The Lady Cougars were down 17 points at the half, but battled back in the third period, cutting BSE's lead to 11.
"We just couldn't get shots to fall to get it under 10 points," Kapper said. "The girls came out the second half being more aggressive. They worked hard. They never quit and battled until the end."
Kapper said the Lady Bombers did a good job inside, as Emily Bone, Baron and Brandi Howard crashed the boards hard.
"We gave them too many offensive rebounds," Kapper said. "That is one thing we have to work on. We'll learn from this game and work to improve."
South Central (2-2) also suffered a 66-34 loss to Sandoval on Tuesday night.
