First United Methodist Church in Vandalia is again hosting Operation Christmas Child for this year, with collections being accepted beginning on Monday.
The church, located at 127 N. Fouth St., is the Vandalia Relay Center for Operation Christmas Child, through which shoe boxes from both Fayette and Montgomery counties are accepted.
Operation Christmas Child is a worldwide children’s project of Samaritan’s Purse that used gift-filled shoe boxes to let hurting boys and girls know that they are loved and not forgotten.
This year, Operation Christmas Child will reach about 10 million children.
Those wishing to participate fill shoe boxes with school supplies, toys, necessity items, family photos and notes of encouragement for needy children.
The relay center hours for drop-off are:
• Monday, 3-5 p.m.
• Tuesday, 5-7 p.m.
• Wednesday, 3-5 p.m.
• Thursday, 5-7 p.m.
• Friday, 5-7 p.m.
• Saturday, 9-11 a.m.
