Nursing test prep course
The new Kaskaskia College Nursing Program admission process will use test results attained on the Test of Essential Academic Skills as the basis for admission to the program.
The test was created by ATI Nursing Education, which is part of Ascend Learning and is currently being used by 2,100 colleges and universities across the country to provide technology-based assessment solutions for healthcare education.
The Kaskaskia College Community Education Department will host a TEAS test preparation course in November for students who are preparing to take the TEAS test for entry into the KC Nursing Program.
Areas of review will include reading comprehension, English, mathematics, basic science and technical reasoning as they apply in healthcare. Other topics related to successful test taking, such as managing test anxiety and discovering learning styles, are also covered.
The TEAS test preparation course will be held on the main campus in the Professional Careers Building, room 123. This class will meet on Nov. 15 and 22, from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
The cost of the test preparation course will be $119. The required textbook is available in the KC Bookstore for $59. The course number is VOCS 267 MC02W. The fee is payable in advance and is not covered by financial aid assistance.
There will be an additional charge for the TEAS test that will be collected by ATI during the online test registration process after registering on the ATI website and receiving a test authorization code.

Web page design class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will present a web page design class through the Vandalia Campus.
The class will be held on Mondays, Nov. 24, and Dec. 8, from 2-4:30 p.m. The registration number for the class is LLI-7037-VA01D.
This is an introduction to web page design focusing on the basics. This project-based class guides students through constructing simple web pages. The topics include formatting text, making Internet-friendly images and creating hyperlinks and lists.
The cost is $59.50; students over 60 may register at no cost.
Intro to Excel class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will present an “Introduction to Microsoft Excel” class through the Vandalia Campus.
The class will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 8 a.m.-noon. The registration number for the class is VOCS-238-VA01W.
Students will learn how to use the spreadsheet program Microsoft EXCEL. Students will have the opportunity to learn many powerful features, such as creating a spreadsheet as a simple budgeting tool, formulas, saving and formatting spreadsheets, sorting, previewing, printing and altering page set-up.
Students will learn all the basics of this versatile tool. The course fee is $20; students over 60 may register at no cost.
‘Gluten-Free Fads and Facts’
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education, in partnership with University of Illinois Extension, will present a free “Gluten-Free Fads and Facts” class through the Vandalia Campus.
The class will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the U of I Extension office, located at 118 N. Sixth St. in Vandalia. The registration number for the class is COED-8100-VA01E.
The gluten-free diet is marketed as a healthier way of eating or as a weight-control tool. Some of the population has a physical need to avoid food products containing wheat, barley and rye grains.
This lesson is designed to promote understanding of gluten intolerance and help you determine how it fits into your diet. There is no cost for this course.
Intro to the Internet class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will present an “Introduction to the Internet” class through the Vandalia Campus.
The class will be held on Tuesdays, Nov. 18, and Dec. 2, from 6-8:30 p.m. The registration number for the class is LLI-7025-VA01E.
This basic class is designed to familiarize one with how to use email, learn about establishing free email accounts and learn how to use the Internet for learning, shopping and business. The cost is $59.50; students over 60 may register at no cost.
‘Spanish for Law Enforcement’
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will present a “Spanish for Law Enforcement” class through the Vandalia Campus.
The class will be held on Saturdays, Nov. 8 and 15, from 9 a.m.-noon. The registration number for the class is PGAD-5324-VA01W.
The two-session practical class will assist law enforcement officers and workers to learn basic phrases used in law enforcement situations.
This will cover certain legal terms as well as commands. This class will also help provide resources for law enforcement.
The cost is $30; students over 60 may register at no cost.
